Boundary Issues

Atlanta Contemporary Art Center

A commissioned installation in response to Gordon Matta-Clark’s 1974 “Bingo / Ninths.” In an acute corner of the main gallery, the exterior topography is transcribed to the interior surface of the wall, below which finishes are removed to display the historic wall paint as a process - transformed over time by water infiltration. A blocked up window is rediscovered, opened, and resealed with a piece of frame-less glass anchored directly to the exterior masonry, revealing unexpected views to the city skyline. The work creates a new space that is understood to be simultaneously historical and present, habitable and underground, secluded but linked to the larger urban condition.
