Chattahoochee RiverLands
Regional Trailhead + Park
Mableton, GA
With SCAPE Landscape Architects
Client: The Trust for Public Land
The park is a landmark new trailhead to access the 100+ miles of waterfront access proposed in the 2020 Chattahoochee RiverLands Greenway Study by SCAPE for the Trust for Public Land.
As part of the 13-acre park including riverfront access, parking, and gathering lawns, BLDGS developed all architectural elements including a performance pavilion and restroom facilities. Each restroom is a small concrete tower, clustered together to support a covered courtyard. These vertical towers, illuminated at night, serve as beacons both from the park side amid the surrounding trees, and from a distance at the water level of the river. The pavilion is comprised of separate roofs supported on a series of slender steel columns, each acting independently as cover for smaller daily activities, or together as a single stage for larger events, oriented to an amphitheater lawn.
