Meadow House
Waynesville, NC
At the end of a long historic roadbed, at the site of collapsed family homestead that once overlooked a broad meadow, the commissioned project is an artist’s residence, and garage / workshop. The primary structural enclosure for both walls and roofs are cross-laminated timber panels. In the residence, the supporting angled roof planes provide daylighting at skylights and a deeply coffered interior ceiling of exposed timber. The fully accessible roofscape is reached by climbing to a third floor reading tower. In the garage and workshop, the entrance is into a private studio, which then leads to a second-floor visitor’s apartment.
